After suffering a dislocated spine, exercising without pain is such a bonus.

I was born in Scotland and emigrated to Australia when I was 7 years old. I found it hard trying to fit and spent most of my time feeling invisible.

In my early 20’s I joined the military, visiting the gym 2-3 times a week and also practicing martial arts. I was fit and muscular and felt good. Whilst out on a military exercise, I contracted dysentery and dropped down to 68 kg and which left me with a damaged liver. I had to take a desk job and became inactive and along with damaged knees from my illness I put on weight. I then suffered a motorbike accident and dislocated my spine. Again the weight piled on. Nothing to do with my love of food, of course.

This went on until an incident at work pushed my blood pressure through the roof and I was put on medication. Shortly after, whilst on an overseas trip, I noticed my clothes shrinking and realized something had to change. A friend of mine had lost weight with Cambridge so I decided I had nothing to lose but weight!

Now my blood pressure is back to normal, as is my cholesterol, I exercise without pain and the biggest bonus was that recently whilst shopping I was told by the shop assistant that I was a slim fit. I am now 46 but feel as fit as I was in my 20’s.

My Consultant, Natalie has provided me with support and encouragement throughout my journey and would pick me up and move onto the next week, if one week I did not lose as much as I wanted. I don’t think I would be where I am today without Natalie beside me.
