I am 55 years young and currently working part-time in a sub-acute hospital as an Associate Nurse Unit Manager (ANUM). My life revolves around my work, family and sport – competitive dragon boating, swimming and bike riding.

At the age of 14 I had a life-threatening horse riding accident, which left me with permanent injuries. As a result of this I now need a knee replacement. I also suffer with deterioration of my back – specialists have told me to give up my sport, gardening and anything else that may aggravate my injuries and all said, the best thing I can do for myself is to loose weight. I tried and failed every diet – it felt like – known to man. I was regularly at my GP asking for pain relief and medication to help me sleep and felt very depressed. I was wondering how I was going to go on, work another 5 years or more and lose weight. So, when I saw my Consultant, Darren’s success, my partner and I decided to give the Cambridge Weight Plan a go.

My life is wonderful… I have just been selected for the Victorian Dragon Boat Team for the over 50s; I am looking forward to doing the Pier to Pub Marathon Swim next year. My joints rarely ache and I have become better at my sport. My whole mindset has changed and I am constantly thinking about activities that involve movement and keep track of my step count every day to reach my daily goal of 10,000 steps, which I often pass. I will still need a knee replacement in the future and I still have to look after my back but I am not constantly in pain anymore and I have so much more energy.

My Consultant has been my inspiration. He has supported and believed in me throughout this journey and I wouldn’t be the person I am now without him or the ongoing support of my partner. Having to weigh in every week also makes you accountable but it’s the encouragement and support that helps you stay on track and keep striving for your goal.
I love spreading the word about Cambridge and hope that others like me can also feel as good as I do.
